STR-M-0003 "FLORA" is one of ten pieces I've designed that will be exhibited at North Central College this coming fall. The other 9 pieces are still in development, and will be added to this site as soon as possible.
"FLORA", and the rest of this exhibition at large, is intended to invoke a sense of unease and confusion through placing entirely unfamiliar forms in an otherwise familiar environment. I've explored this through the use of two fractal datasets: the Mandelbrot set and the Julia set. This particular image employs the Mandelbrot set, hence the "M" in "STR-M-0003".
Accompanying this image will be a briefing on the subject, authored by the fictional Novel Structure Research Commission (NSRC).
With this exhibition, I'm aiming to develop an immersive narrative for viewers to experience, including a puzzle hidden in the exhibition's secondary materials that will allow viewers to come away with a piece of the work for themselves.
